Karnataka's Karan in Indian U-18 squad

Bangalore-based lanky power-forward Karan Joshua has been picked in the India under-18 squad for the 22nd FIBA Asia Championship to be held in Mongolia from August 17-26.

The team, which was announced by the Basketball Federation of India on Thursday, will be coached by Jai Prakash Singh and Pawan Kumar will be his assistant.

The contingent has been preparing for the championship at the national coaching camp held from on the first week of August at the Indira Gandhi stadium in New Delhi.

This tournament is the qualifying event for next year’s FIBA Under-19 World Championship to be played in the Czech Republic. The top three teams will represent Asia. This is the first time Mongolia is hosting an International Basketball Federation (FIBA) Asia event with the host nation making its debut.

Participating teams: Group A: China, Hong Kong, Lebanon, India. Group B: Korea, Japan, Singapore, Syria. Group C: Chinese Taipei, Indonesia, Bahrain, Mongolia. Group D: Iran, Kazakhstan, Philippines, Saudi Arabia.
