'Srirangapatna Dasara' from October 19

Srirangapatna Dasara would be celebrated for three days from October 19.

At a preliminary meeting here at Mini Vidhana Soudha on Wednesday, assistant commissioner Latha said that the festivities will be inaugurated on October 19 at 2 pm at Bannimantap near Kiranguru circle.

She said either theatre artist B Jayashree or lexicographer G Venkatasubbaiah would be invited to inaugurate Dasara. A procession of folk troupes, NCC, police including ‘jumboo savari’ will be taken out from Bannimantap concluding at Sri Ranganatha Swamy temple, where there would be bursting of crackers in the evening along with cultural programmes.

Elaborating on the programmes, she said, wrestling, road race, rangoli competition and ‘mahila sambrama’ have been scheduled on October 20. Poets’ meet, folk dance and other programmes would also be conducted. Native artists would be given prominence.

Writer Karimuddin, Dr Bhanuprakash Sharma, tahsildar Arul Kumar, taluk panchayat president Nirmitha Lokesh, ex president T Sridhar, M Santhosh, G Uma Shankar, DySP Kala Krishnaswamy, BEO K Jagadish, ryot leader K S Nanjundegowda, block Congress president S L Lingaraju and others were present.
