Ulaibettu tragedy victims get relief

Students of Balmy School namely, Ayesha Suhana (5), Sambrina (10), Mohammed Hafiz (8), Mushir (4), Fathimatul Mushina (7), Haseena (7) and Afrul Rahiman (7) had died when their school bus plunged into the swindling Phalguni river on August 14, 2008.

R K Pangannaya, a document writer from Haradi in Puttur had filed a public interest litigation seeking compensation to the families of the deceased children. In response to this, the CWC has ordered that the named authorities should act within 30 days as per the Juvenile Justice Act.

Pangannaya had listed the Balmy school head master, the BEO, DDPI, SP, RTO, PWD Chief Engineer and ZP Chief Engineer as respondents in his petition.

The CWC has targeted the Education Department, PW Department and the school management as the main respondents.
