Jailed former MLA used 47 SIM cards in a month

Believe it or not but the former JD (U) MLA Munna Shukla, who had sought ‘extortion’ from the director of a private engineering college for Nitish’s rally, had used 47 SIM cards to make different calls in one month.

Shukla, who is lodged in Muzaffarpur’s Shaheed Khudiram Bose Central Jail after being convicted for killing Bihar’s Science and Technology Minister Brij Bihari Prasad, is under the police scanner ever since an FIR (No: 220/12) had been lodged against him under sections 382, 506 and 420 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

Following the complaint, a team led by Muzaffarpur DM Santosh Kumar Mall and Senior SP (SSP) Rajesh Kumar searched all the prison wards at the central jail. In another raid, a cellphone, a charger and an earphone were recovered from the prisoners’ ward.

After investigation, it was found that Shukla had used 47 SIM cards to make calls from jail for 130 hours in one month. “We are verifying all the call details of the numbers to solve the extortion case against Shukla,” said the station house officer (SHO) of the Mithnapura police station Satyedeo Prasad Singh.

The SSP has asked the SHO to also procure the names of those persons to whom the SIM cards were issued. “We will also interrogate the suspected jail officials who have reportedly helped the incarcerated leader to carry out his extortion threats,” said the SSP.

It may be mentioned that a few days back Shukla, who is the husband of JD (U) MLA from Lalganj, Annu Shukla, had reportedly demanded Rs 7 crore as ‘extortion’ from the director (HR) of the Bhagwanpur-based Patna Saheb College of Engineering and Technology, Sant Lal Yadav. The amount was later scaled down to Rs 2 crore.

Following the lodging of FIR against him, and the subsequent brouhaha in the media, the JD (U) has not only distanced itself from the former JD (U) legislator but all the hoardings with Munna Shukla’s photos (in which he was appealing to people to attend Nitish’s Adhikar rally in huge number) have been removed.
