Provide basic facilities in hostels: BC panel

Karnataka Legislature Committee on the Welfare of Backward Classes and Minorities has directed the authorities to ensure that facilities are provided at the hostesl run by the Backward Classes and Minorities department.

The Sub Committee of the Karnataka Legislature Committee had visited the the district on Tuesday. The Committee chairman Tanveer Set said that basic facilities should be provided in all the hostels. Tahsildars and taluk panchayat EOs should visit the hostels and inspect the cleanliness.

Land should be earmarked for those hostels which do not have own buildings. With the increase in number of students, there is a need to construct additional toilets in the post-metric hostels in Chikmagalur.

Committee member and MLA C H Vijayashankar said that the district administration should submit a detailed report on the condition in the hostels, to the State government.

He directed the authorities to initiate measures to plant fruit bearing trees, in and around the vacant land in the hostels.

Committee member M Srinivas, Devaraj Urs Development Corporation Managing Director Ramaiah, BCM department Deputy Director P A Ganapathy, Additional DC K P Honakeri and others were present.
