'Delhi govt behind gurdwara attack'

Last Updated 17 November 2012, 20:18 IST

Former union minister and SAD (Badal) leader B S Ramoowalia on Saturday held the city government responsible for a violent attack on its party leaders in a gurdwara in the Capital.

He appealed to the Prime Minister to rein the government from interfering in the internal affairs of Sikh community.

He blamed Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Prabhandhak Committee (DSGPC) president P S Sarna for playing into the hands of the city government.

“The attack, on our Delhi party unit president Manjit Singh G K and his associates by the DSGPC, was a Congress sponsored act, under the leadership of Sarna,” said Ramoowalia. “Sarna has all along been implementing the Congress policies by proxy.”

While demanding the arrest of Sarna, Ramoowalia appealed to the Congress’s central  leadership and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to force the city government to hold DSGPC elections before December 31.

“There is an absolute anarchy in running of gurdwaras in Delhi. The president of DSGPC is resorting to anti-religious and un-ethical measures to keep himself in power,” said Ramoowalia. “The Congress party is protecting him.”

Ramoowalia said the city government is allowing the DSGPC president to keep his private army under the name of Task Force.

The Task Force consists of 500 members and has been camping in Gurdwara Bala Sahib for past seven months. “None of them is a regular employee of DSGPC, even then they are being paid heavily from gurdwara funds,” he added.
