<p>The team from Mangalore and Udupi, a part of Karnataka-Goa NCC directorate which had taken part in All India Nau Sainik camp, at Visakhapattanam has won third position in overall championship. <br /><br /></p>.<p>Addressing a press meet, NCC Group Commandant Colonel Dinesh P Naikavde said that Best Cadet award was won by Cadet Captain Savney Biltford Monteiro from St Aloysius College. The team won silver medal in the boat pulling competition. The team comprised Cadets Atishay, Prithvi, Savney, Preetham, Chandan Gowda, Sachin, Udanka and Ganesh. <br /><br />The team was just five seconds behind Maharashtra, who won the gold medal. Cadets Kowshik and Shrinivas won individual bronze medals in health and hygiene competition. <br />Stating that the boat pool at Old Harbour, in Mangalore is in deplorable condition, Col Naikavde said that F M Lobo family had given its space at Lobo’s River View to train the cadets. <br /><br />The team was trained under Commander N Ramachandra, Commanding Officer, 5 Karnataka NCC Naval unit of Group HQ. The team had won fifth position last year. <br /><br />Monteiro, who won Best Cadet award, said “the entire event was difficult and I had spent countless sleepless nights. At the end of the day, there is no substitute for hard work.<br /><br /> We were trained very hard in Mangalore.” Col Naikavde said that Monteiro has a better scope to go abroad on a foreign cruise, with the 13 friendly countries of NCC. One of the criterion for the cruise is to have best cadet award, at the All India Nau Sainik apart from other selection procedure. <br /></p>
