RTO yet to vacate 'Sunny Side'

The work on RTO which was started on Abbey falls road two years ago has not completed yet. As a result, the office is not likely to be shifted to the premises shortly.

The RTO has been occupying the Sunny Side, the ancestral house of General Thimmaiah for the last several years. The locals have been demanding to convert Sunny Side into a General Thimmaiah Memorial.

In fact, even Minister R Ashok had promised to shift RTO to the new venue.  In this background, the work on the building was started on Abbey falls road. The work on the building is nearing completion.

The work on compound hall has been started and is likely to be completed within a month.

Work worth Rs one crore including test track, telephone connection, vehicle parking, electricity connections are yet to be started. The work has been handed over to the PWD. RTO will be shifted to the new premises after completing the work, said RTO Habeebulla Khan.

A few organisations are opposing the shifting of RTO to the new premises.
They said “the new building is situated seven to eight kilometres away from Madikeri. Public will meet lot of inconvenience in reaching the office.”
