Sandy Robson, a 45-year-old kayaker from Freemantle near Perth in West Australia, who is on an expedition to retrace the sea expedition undertaken by Osckar Speck in 1935 from Germany to Australia, was detained and released later by the police in Kasargod on Wednesday.

According to the police, a few fishermen who noticed the foreigner in the sea informed the police, who in turn, summoned her to the police station. However, after questioning and verifying her documents, she was allowed to continue her journey.

Speaking to Deccan Herald, Sandy said that she had to spend about three hours in the police station, before she was allowed to go. “The police are yet to release my kayak,” she said and added that it may be released on Thursday.

Sandy started her expedition in May, 2011. She entered India on December 2, 2012 through Gujarat. This kayaker, who travels around 40 km per day, already covered 1,000 km. She left Mangalore on January 29.
