TV lensman blamed for girl's suicide

Tumkur police are searching for the cameraman of a private television channel, in connection with the suicide of a girl.

Sweeti Marina (26) was found dead, hanging, in her residence on Wednesday evening. In a  suicide note purportedly left by her, Marina has blamed Bhargav, a cameraman with a private Kannada television channel, for her death.

Jennifer Peter, Marina’s mother, in her complaint to the Tilak Nagar police, said that her daughter and Bhargav were in love and involved in a relationship for the last several years, but complained of abuses by him.

She has stated that Bhargav  sold Marina’s jewellery, which were worth Rs 13 lakh and had borrowed Rs 20 lakh in her name. Using this money, he used to lead a lavish life, she explained.

“When we demanded him to repay the money, he would threaten us with dire consequences. Besides, Bhargav was pestering Marina to give him another Rs 10 lakh. Unable to bear the torture, she ended her life,” the complaint stated.

It is said that Bhargav, who came to know of the suicide, fled in Marina’s car, leaving his bike in front of the Tilak Nagar police station.

Sub-Inspector Prasad of Tilak Nagar told Deccan Herald that a case as been registered under Section 306 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and they are actively on a lookout for Bhargav.
