Govt to recruit more women police

Speaking to mediapersons on Wednesday, said that at present women comprise only six per cent of the State police force, while according to the current government norms, 10 per cent of the total police force should be women.
The government has decided to change the norms and increase the ratio to 20 per cent, making way for induction of more women, he said.

18,000 posts vacant

Over 18,000 posts are vacant and the government will immediately start the recruitment process, he said. In the first phase, 8,000 posts will be filled, he added. To address the housing problems, the Police Housing Corporation has been directed to build 5,000 police quarters.

There are also plans to introduce self-financing housing scheme for police personnel. Primary Health Centres and schools will be opened in the police colonies, he said.
