MPs can contribute Rs 50 lakh for U'khand

Members of Parliament (MPs) have been allowed to recommend works of up to Rs 50 lakh in the flood and landslide affected areas of Uttarakhand, said the Ministry of Statistics & Programme Implementation.

It means that the MPs can collectively contribute up to Rs 361 crore for reconstruction projects in the affected areas.

In his letter to the MPs, Minister for Statistics and Programme Implementation Srikant Kumar Jena said: “Flash floods, landslides and cloud burst have caused severe destruction in Uttarakhand. Considering its intensity and magnitude, the Ministry of Home Affairs has informed that this was a calamity of severe nature for all practical purposes. Accordingly, as per para 2.8 of the guidelines on MPLADS, the MPs can recommend works of up to a maximum of Rs 50 Lakh for the affected areas of Uttarakhand.”

The minister has urged all MPs to indicate the amount they wish to contribute at the earliest. Consent letters in a prescribed format from the MPs may be addressed to the Rajya Sabha or the Lok Sabha committees on MPLADS.
