A 20-year-old man was stabbed to death and three members of his family were injured in an attack by a group over personal enmity in south-west Delhi on Sunday. All the accused have been arrested, police said on Monday.

The victim has been identified as Krishan, a resident of Kumhar Colony in Uttam Nagar. He used to work at a CCTV camera dealer in west Delhi’s Tilak Nagar at a monthly salary of Rs 5,500.

“The injured are his father Sunderlal, mother Prama Devi and 22-year-old cousin Lalit. The attack took place over a two-year-old enmity between the victim and a local youth named Suraj,” a police officer said. It is alleged that Krishan was waylaid near his house at around 9 pm by Suraj and his associates Harikrishan, Omprakash, Sumit, Lalchand, Ganesh and Shyamlal.

“They were armed with knives and iron rods,” the officer added. Suraj had a heated argument with the victim after which he was beaten up with rods. Krishan’s father Sunderlal saw his son being stabbed, while he was returning home after visiting a relative.

Sunderlal told police that he tried to interfere but by then Krishan was stabbed multiple times by Suraj.

“His throat was also slit during the attack,” the officer said.

Sunderlal alleged that the other accused also stabbed him though he had already collapsed after attack by Suraj.

“The group then attacked Sunderlal with Suraj stabbing and Lalchand hitting him with an iron road,” the officer added.

Hearing the commotion, Krishan’s mother Prama and cousin Lalit rushed to the spot, but they were also not spared.

The accused fled when locals began to gather. Krishan was rushed to Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital by cousin Sunil Kumar, while others were taken in a police control room vehicle.

“Krishan was declared brought dead, while Sunderlal and Lalit are undergoing treatment. Prema was discharged after treatment,” the officer said.

Krishan’s body was handed over to the family on Monday. A case of murder and attempt to murder has been filed over Sunderlal’s statement with Bindapur police station.
