Inspired by the success of battery operated vehicles launched by the Karnataka Legislative Council in the month of March 2013, the State government is introducing four more such vehicles.

Sources in the secretariat told Deccan Herald that the vehicles introduced recently have been a big hit as not just the members of the Legislative Council (MLCs), even the MLAs prefer them to go to Vidhana Soudha or Vikasa Soudha from Legislators’ Home. “Considering this, the State government will procure more of these vehicles,” sources said.

Supporting this, Shreesh V, Secretary, Legislative Council said the vehicles are in high demand among the members as almost every one prefers to take them for they are noiseless and safe.

Over 9,000 km completed

Accordingly, the two vehicles launched by Council Chairman Shankaramurthy have completed over 9,000 kms of trip within the short duration of four months. One vehicle has completed 5,252 kms and another has completed 4,769 kms.

“Though we brought these vehicles for the use of council members, today they are being used by almost every one, like followers of MLAs and ministers and even our officers and staff (legislative council),” informed Shreesh. “Some times our committee meetings will be held at the Legislative Bhavan. All our staff use these vehicles to go there,” he added.

The vehicle being eco-friendly is free from maintenence as there has been no repairs or complaint. The noiseless vehicles, which run on batteries ferry 12 people at a time and cover a distance of one km from Legislative Bhavan to Vidhana Soudha and Vikasa soudha.

The vehicles are user friendly and there is no need for registration.
