Last Updated 17 September 2013, 17:09 IST

Nissan recently showcased the all-new Terrano premium compact SUV at a blockbuster action packed showcase event at a film studio in Mumbai.

The new model – the fourth vehicle to be produced locally in Nissan’s Oragadam Plant alongside Micra, Sunny and Evalia - boasts bold, distinctive styling and is due to go on sale across India in October this year. The Terrano has been developed specifically for the Indian market keeping the lineage of Nissan’s advantage of a large assortment of SUV’s.

It will play a key role in boosting Nissan’s sales volume in India and marks the company’s entry into the expanding compact SUV segment.

The Terrano has been praised highly by customers for its comfort, styling and performance since the nameplate was first introduced in 1986. It was so popular that second and third generations were launched.

The latest model continues this long-standing tradition for excellence by offering consumers luxurious interiors and distinct premium exterior styling along with standard safety features.

Exterior styling

The new Terrano has a dominating road presence with a dynamic and robust stance. The vehicle conveys modernity while paying homage to Nissan’s SUV design heritage seen in models like Patrol and Pathfinder.
The model’s front-end highlights Nissan’s V-Motion design signature, which starts from the angled strut grille and moves up through the bonnet. The chrome finished grille gives the vehicle a strong attitude while the sharp headlamps - with a four-pod design - cast a deep-set eye impression and feature sleek, integrated turn signals. The wide, tough front lends the Terrano a very powerful personality.
The car’s character is further strengthened by a clear shoulder expression providing length to the vehicle. The overall clean design of the car is accentuated by muscular fenders defined by sharp creases. These distinct details give the compact SUV a very agile yet spacious impression.
Terrano’s distinct exterior is accentuated by imposing Nissan heritage grill which emphasizes tough, solid and durable attributes. The look is ‘adventure-ready’ with  strong and stable stance. All-new 16-inch, chrome-coated, machined-alloy wheels complete the premium and appealing appearance.
Terrano’s rear has distinctive stylish rear combination lamps with horizontal white graphic detailing. The wide-spaced tail lamps offer a firmly-planted stance when viewed from the rear to make the Terrano distinctively different from any other competitor.
Other exterior details include colored roof rails, silver-finished skid plates and a chrome finisher strip on the tailgate.
Interior design
Terrano promises to pamper its occupants with its well-appointed, premium interior. The two-tone dash features chrome surrounds for the AC vents and silver-finished accents around the glossy, piano black centre console.
Extensive use of light-colored beige in the cabin adds to the feel of roominess while useful storage spaces, including a covered compartment above the centre console, add to the cabin’s practicality.
Speaking at the unveiling event at the Mehboob Studios in Mumbai, Kenichiro Yomura, President Nissan India Operations, said, “Terrano marks our entry into the compact SUV segment, which is one of the fastest growing segments in the Indian market today.”
“It follows the same design language as our renowned Pathfinder and Patrol SUVs and makes a strong statement, which is a key differentiator in this segment. We are confident that Terrano will appeal both to existing real SUV lovers and consumers looking to graduate to SUVs.”
Pre-bookings for the Terrano will commence from 1st September at select Nissan dealerships throughout India. The Terrano will sport a starting pricetag of sub-Rs 10 lakh.
Announcing the pre-booking, Nitish Tipnis, Director - Sales & Marketing, Hover Automotive India (Nissan India NSC) said, “The news and buzz on Terrano has already got consumers excited. Terrano is set to venture into a new segment of its own; that of a premium compact SUV with sedan like comfort at an affordable price and best-in-class fuel efficiency.”
