Research facility to open at Yenepoya University today

The  Yenepoya University will open a multi-disciplinary research facility at Yenepoya Research Centre and launch the e-learning for the teaching and learning process for MBBS and BDS, on October 9.

ICMR Director General and Department of Health Research (Govt of India) Dr V M Katoch will inaugurate the centre and e-learning facility.

Addressing a press meet, Registrar Dr Raghuveer said that the state-of-the-art research centre, set up at a cost of Rs 2 crore, will have four divisions on its 3,200 sq ft premises. The molecular biology division is set up on 700 sq feet area and will have all the major instruments required for the research in the field.

The Cell Culture division is on 500 sq ft area and consists of equipment needed for research using mammalian cell culture. The Analytical division has come up on 1350 sq ft area, which houses facilities for many analytical works required in biomedical research.

Biostatistics and Bioinformatics are integral part of the biomedical research and a division with 600 sq ft area is allotted for this purpose. This division has access to computer terminals and a high capacity computer for data processing, Dr Raghuveer said.

 The facilities created in the centre will provide a platform to carry out research in areas extending from cell and molecular biology, genomics, proteomics, genetics, cell culture, toxicology and nano medicine.

e-learning

Dr Raghuveer said that the University has implemented a web based e-learning programme ‘Yenpage.’ It is a portal communication and collaborative tool, where students and teachers interact with each other electronically.Yenpage supplies course materials in the form of text, video, audio and images.

It also evaluates students performance and activities by running online tests, surveys and assignments. The yenpage also manages the online calender for each class session schedule in realtime basis.

He said that currently I, II and III year MBBS and BDS students are actively utilising these facilities from campus, using wi-fi facilities.
