Mulayam woos UP Muslims

Samajwadi Party (SP) supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav on Saturday launched a scathing attack on BJP’s prime ministerial candidate and Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi.

He said his party would not allow Modi to ‘turn UP into Gujarat’ even as he pleaded with ‘folded hands‘ with the people to ensure a big win for SP, so that it could play a crucial role in the formation of the next government at the Centre after the 2014 polls.

“Modi says he will turn UP into Gujarat. What does he want? Does he want another massacre in UP also? We shall not allow that,” Mulayam said, while addressing a well attended rally at Jhansi, about 300 km from here. “We shall chase him (Modi) out of the state and he will not be able to see UP ever again,” he said.

Mulayam termed Modi as a ‘product’ of the media. “Now, his (Modi) graph is going down sharply. Our rallies are attracting much bigger crowds,” he claimed. The SP leader went all out to woo the Muslim community and said that the Akhilesh Yadav government had done a lot for the Muslims in the state after taking over. “No other government has done so much, “he said, as he defended the government’s handling of the Muzaffarnagar riots. “The State has helped the riot victims in a big way, but some people are playing politics over the communal riots which is unfortunate,” the SP supremo said.

He also rooted for the Third Front, saying that the next Lok Sabha elections were very crucial. “The elections are the best chance to oust the BJP and Congress and instal a Third Front government,” he said.

“Kindly ensure a big win for SP...if we win many seats here, we will be playing a crucial role in the government formation after 2014 polls...,” he said.
