Chief Minister Siddaramaiah came down heavily against the BJP and former chief minister B S Yeddyurappa, during his visit to the town on Wednesday.

“BJP has done all those bad things that it should not have done and has failed disastrously. Those who looted the State have now joined together. If they unite, will people forget the fact that Yeddyurappa was pushed behind bars?” the CM asked.

He was speaking after laying foundation stone and inaugurating development works worth Rs 14 crore at Tarikere Assembly constituency. Lashing out at the BJP, he said the BJP leaders had no moral right to show their face to the people. Therefore, they are flaunting the photographs of Narendra Modi everywhere. They are scared that displaying their photographs in banners will make people remember all the bad things they have done in the past,” he criticised.

Further, he said Yeddyurappa has not found any allegations to make against the Congress government. That is why he has resorted to tell lies by complaining that development has been stopped in the State. “He has nothing else to speak about us, whereas we have hundreds of issues to speak against him. It seems he has forgotten that he was jailed for sometime. Of the 160 promises that the Congress had made prior to elections, 69 promises have been fulfilled within a span of eight months of the Congress coming to power. I have laid foundation stones and inaugurated several works here. Aren’t they development works?” he questioned the media.

Speaking about some of the development works, the Chief Minister said he has given first priority to irrigation projects in the State. The government has planned to spend Rs 10,000 crore every year on irrigation projects, thus spending Rs 50,000 crore in five years. A sum of Rs 9,813 crore budgetary allocation has been made this year for irrigation projects. “We are spending the allocation in a proper way,” he said.

“About 21.5 TMC water has been sanctioned from Upper Bhadra project to provide irrigation to 2.65 lakh acre land in Chikmagalur and Chitradurga districts. Water is flown to 156 lakes. The project cost is Rs 5,985 crore. A revised estimation has been prepared for irrigating 58,000 acre land. Detailed Project Report too has been prepared on the same. The government has agreed to flow water to 82 lakes. With this, most of the areas in the taluk will provided with irrigation facility,” Siddaramaiah said.

Ministers Roshan Baig, H S Mahadeva Prasad, District-in-Charge Minister K Abhayachandra Jain, M P Jayaprakasah Hegde and others were present.
