As many as 24 old cars, worth Rs 40 lakh, were destroyed in a fire accident at a dumping yard at Kadubisanahalli in HAL police limits on Monday afternoon.
Six fire tenders with 35 firemen battled for nearly an hour to tame the fire. There were no casualties in the incident.
Meru Cabs, which had rented a piece of land on Graveyard Road, had dumped around 400 cars.
‘Beedi triggered fire’
The dry grass, police suspect, caught fire from a burning beedi butt and spread all over.
Some local residents, who noticed the fire, called up the fire control around 3.05 pm. “Barring 24 cars, all other vehicles remained in good condition,” RFO Ramesh said.
