Woman absconds after cheating firm of Rs 2.16 lakh

The accused, identified as Veena K of VV Puram, disappeared on November 25 and a cheating complaint was lodged against her the next day, said the Kalasipalya police.

According to Durga Bearings Private Limited, Veena joined the firm in the accounts department. She managed to learn details of the firm’s banking transactions.

She would download bank statements, change the statements meeting her requirement and mail the altered statements.

She would call up the bank officials stating that there was some problem with the computer network and request them to mail the altered statement, added the firm officials.

All of a sudden, there were some problems in the firm computers. She had deleted the password and given the new password.

Meanwhile, she had the bank statement file in her house. The cheating came to light when the firm officials,  checked out her mails. She was found to have defrauded the firm to the tune of Rs five lakh.

She admitted to having committed the crime when questioned. She managed to return Rs 2.77 lakh and promised to repay the balance amount shortly. However, she failed to return and absconded, added the officials.

Con man held

The CCB sleuths arrested a con man and seized a high end model car, Rs seven lakh cash and property documents on Monday. The arrested has been identified as C N Prakash, a resident of Chowdappanahalli in Devanahalli taluk.

The accused was serving as associate manager with Fire Pro Systems Private Limited in 2005. Prakash’s duty included preparing a list of salaries of employees. With the intention of making fast bucks he opened two savings bank accounts with the ICICI bank, one with Indiranagar branch and another with MG Road branch and continued to claim the salaries of employees who had quit the organisation. He used to transfer the money to his account in both branches. Thus, he cheated the firm to the tune of Rs 5 lakh, the police said. A complaint was lodged when the cheating came to light. The accused had purchased the car and land using the money.

Seven held

The Kalasipalya police have arrested seven persons, who had allegedly planned to commit a dacoity and recovered a van, bike, two gold chains and lethal weapons from them. Kausar Pasha of KG Halli, Dadapeer of Tumkur, Shahid of Haleguddahalli, Mohammad Rafique of Banashankari, Nawaz Pasha of Anchepalya, Syed Imtiyaz of Vinayaknagar and Mohammad Rafi of Hale Guddahalli are the arrested.

Minor girl commits suicide

A 15-year-old girl who had set herself ablaze unable to bear the  humiliation caused by a marriage proposal, succumbed to burns at Victoria Hospital on Sunday evening.

The girl, daughter of a garment worker Devdas, a resident of Ambedkar Nagar was upset over the marriage proposal by Lakshman, the brother of her neighbour, Usha.

According to the Srirampuram police, the girl was very upset and distressed over the embarrassment brought about by Lakshman's 'daring attempt to malign her'. Although she had outrightly rejected his advances, the fear of ignominy to her family forced her to take the extreme step. She set herself ablaze on November 28.

Lakshman, a coolie was arrested on Friday following the girl's statement at Victoria Hospital and remanded in judicial custody.
