In the midst of the election, the political discourse has now shifted to Priyanka versus Modi, with the BJP on Friday saying that the Congress is now projecting its president’s daughter after Rahul failed to deliver.
So far the verbal duel was centred around BJP prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi and Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi deviating into a territory that has many a time questioned meaningful dialogue. But Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, who merely manages the constituencies of her mother and brother, walked into the mud-slinging debate during a recent speech made in Raebareli, accusing that the Opposition had “humiliated” her family by targeting her husband Robert on land deals. Though she had professed that personal attacks should be avoided, Priyanka dragged Modi again, accusing him of snooping on a woman.
Realising that they cannot ignore her, BJP leader Prakash Javadekar on Friday said, “when Rahul Gandhi has failed, the Congress has pitched Priyanka.. She is making a virtue out of corruption.
“We are not attacking persons. We are not raising personal issues. These are corruption issues. We are ready for a debate on land versus land issue - where land is given to industry for increasing employment, production and GSDP and that given for personal profits,” Prakash Javadekar said.
Priyanka had again targeted Modi in Raebareli, accusing him of gifting thousand acress of land at a throwaway price in Gujarat, hinting at Adani group.
The BJP said that she was criticising the Gujarat model without knowing anything about it. He said that the land was given by the Vaghela government and not by Modi. The party also countered Congress argument by saying that other states including those ruled by the Congress are also giving tax concessions to industrialists.
