A mother-son duo was helped by an unidentified car driver in nabbing two motorcycle-borne men who had snatched the woman’s purse and fled on ITO flyover on Monday night.

Residents of east Delhi’s Kalyanpuri, Kamla Kaur, 42, and her 20-year-old son Hargun were headed to Raja Garden on a motorcycle to attend a relative’s wedding.

Just when they were crossing the ITO flyover at 9 pm, two men on a Karizma motorcycle approached from behind, snatched her purse and sped away. While the shocked victims just stood there, a man travelling by car who saw the incident told them to chase the snatchers and also offered to help them.

As the victims began the chase, the Good Samaritan also got into pursuit.

Catching up

“After following them for almost 10 minutes, the car driver managed to close in and hit the motorcycle of the accused with his four-wheeler. Despite falling, the two snatchers continued to flee, leaving the motorcycle behind,” a police officer told Deccan Herald.

However, they were chased for some distance by locals there before being caught. A call was made to police and the two were handed over. A case was filed against the accused Gulsahtab and Nadeem, both residents of Seelampur in north-east Delhi. They have been sent to jail.

But the car driver had left too. Despite being searched by police for a statement and by the mother-son duo to thank him for his help, he was not to be found.

“The mother and son arrived at police station and in shock they had forgotten to thank the car driver. It appears he left immediately after helping nab the culprits,” the officer said.
