Rachana launches self employment scheme

Mangalore Diocese Bishop Rev Dr Aloysius Paul D’Souza inaugurated the Rachana- Catholic Chamber of Commerce and Industry self-employment scheme by handing over the Tata Nano key to the first beneficiary of ‘Nano Taxi’ plan, at Bishop’s House, in Mangalore, on Saturday. 

In the inaugural speech, the Bishop congratulated the forum for motivating self-employment. This is a model that one should follow. Helping poor is equal to worship of God, he said.

Meantime, he hoped more youth would show interest towards self-employment and graced the gathering. Jayaprakash Fernandes, hailing from Sampaje of Sullia was the first person to receive Nano key. 

Rachana President Ivan D’Souza said that in first phase, 100 youth will get Nano cars under self-employment scheme. Tata Company will provide vehicles with Rs 45,000 discount.

MCC Bank would give loans with 10 per cent rebate. “The ‘Nano Taxi’ scheme is first of its kind in Dakshina Kannada. In coming days self-entrepreneurs will be trained to provide service within City limits, especially to airport, under innovative ‘Nano Cool Taxi’ plan.

As in some other metros, Nano taxi service will be commenced, where the district administration will have the right to decide the rent, he said. More than 100 youth have shown interest to start different kind of business through Rachana and the forum has provided loan facility to them through Indian Overseas Bank.     

Plans on export 

Ivan said that Rachana has decided to export vegetables, jasmine and other products of coastal Karnataka. A cold storage facility has been established at the cargo division at Mangalore airport for the purpose. “We have received good response from the entrepreneurs after Magnet 2014, Mangalorean Global Network of Entrepreneurial Talent, held in April. 

MCC President Francis Cutinho, Rachana former president Marcel Monteiro, Konkani Academy President Roy Castelino, Rachana Secretary John Monteiro, Treasurer Brian Fernandes, Auto Matrix Sales Manager Sooraj Jain, Tata Motors Regional Officer Naveen and others were present.
