Central varsity Gulbarga begins admission process

The Central University of Karnataka (CUK), Gulbarga, has started the process for admissions to various programmes. It will be holding entrance exams across the country on June 7 and 8.

The admissions are for dual degree programmes, Master’s Programmes and Research ( PhD) programmes. 

Briefing reporters, CUK Vice Chancellor M N Sudheendra Rao said, “We are expecting over 600 students to join our programmes this year.  The entrance exams will be conducted in selected 36 centres across the country. We will not collect tuition fees and hostel fees from girl students belonging to economically weaker section, having annual income less than Rs 6 lakh and also from the students belonging to SC/ST community. From this year, we are introducing an 8 per cent reservation for students from Hyderabad-Karnataka region.”

While there are six dual degree programmes in English, Economics, Geology, General Engineering among others, there are over 14 Master’s degree and 16 PhD degree programmes. 

CUK Controller of Examinations Basavaraj Donur, said the university has received over 4,400 applications. From Karnataka alone, there were  2,300 applications of which 100 are from Bangalore. The entrance exams are set differently for dual degree, Master’s and PhD degree. The admission is based on the marks secured in the entrance exams. 

The last date for submitting online and offline applications is May 30 while June 3 is the last date for downloading hall tickets from the university website.

The university has more than 800 students and around 90 faculty including contract employees. The university has tied up with community colleges to offer certificate courses to students.
