Commits suicide just days before delivery, cops question husband

A nine-month pregnant woman was found dead under mysterious circumstances at her house in west Delhi’s Paschim Vihar in the wee hours of Friday.

As no suicide note was recovered in the house, police have detained her husband for questioning.

The victim has been identified as Princy Mol, 27, who hailed from Kerala’s Idukki district and was a nurse.

She lived with her 29-year-old husband Shiju R Kaliyikkal in a rented house.Police said they were informed after the couple’s domestic help reported for work on Friday morning. “The main gate of the house was found open by the domestic help. When she went inside, Princy was found hanging from the ceiling fan of her bedroom. Shiju was not at home,” said a police officer.

The domestic help raised an alarm and informed neighbours, who further made a call to the police control room. 

Princy was declared dead on the spot and her body was later taken to Sanjay Gandhi Memorial Hospital for a post-mortem.

She was nine-month pregnant and was scheduled to deliver the child next week. She got married to Shiju three and a half years ago.

“It was a love marriage and they came to the capital around three years ago,” the officer added. After an initial probe, police said few injury marks were noticed near Princy’s neck.“Her family members have been informed and they are likely to reach Delhi by Saturday afternoon. Till then, her body has been preserved in the mortuary. The post-mortem examination will be conducted on Sunday,” the officer said.

Though no suicide note was recovered from the house, prima facie, police suspect it to be a case of suicide.

Since Princy died within seven years of her marriage, an SDM enquiry has also been initiated. Princy’s family members will also be questioned.

Fight over petty issues

Shiju has been detained for questioning over allegations that the couple used to fight over petty issues.

Call data records of Shiju’s mobile phone is also being analysed.

“He remains under scanner,” the officer added.
