President Pranab Mukherjee will define the contours of newly elected Prime Minister Narendra Modi government during his address to joint session of Parliament on Monday morning.

As the constitutional head of the state, President Mukherjee has to fulfil the obligation of addressing members of both the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha to tell the nation the priorities of the NDA government.  The President’s address will begin at 11 am in the central hall of Parliament.

The prime minister had asked his senior most ministers Rajnath Singh and Arun Jaitley to source inputs for putting together the presidential address which would be read out by the President.

Mukherjee’s address will also focus on the UPA’s poor legacy inherited by the new government but without taking name of the previous government.

Runaway food inflation that has overtly contributed to the overall inflation, jobless growth, upgradation of infrastructure, enhancing decision making and delivery mechanism, attracting foreign investment, strengthening internal security and tackling corruption are some of the broad issues the President’s address will meander through.

After the President’s address, both the Houses will have separate sitting of 30 minutes each with Secretaries General of Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha respectively tabling copies of Mukherjee’s speech.
