The body of Sachin Joseph Rayappa, 24, who drowned a couple of weeks ago at Des Moines, a tributary of River Mississippi, was buried at Silvepura near Hesaraghatta in the City on Tuesday.

The body was flown in to Bangalore in a flight which arrived around 1 am. It was kept at St Joseph Church at Royan Circle between 9 and 11 am, where special prayers were offered. Later, the body was taken for burial, which took place around 3 pm, Sachin’s father Rayappa told Deccan Herald.

He said he received a death certificate of his son which stated that Sachin’s death occurred due to ‘freshwater drowning.’

“My son did not know swimming which proved costly,” he said.

Rayappa said it would take some more weeks for them to receive the final autopsy report. He said he was planning to request the Indian government to take up the matter with the US administration for a proper probe to ascertain the cause of his son’s death after receiving the final autopsy report.

“Nobody knows what exactly happened. We have received a certificate which states that drowning caused his death and that we should trust it,” he added.

Sachin, a BCom graduate, was in the US on an assignment with the multinational accounting major Ernst & Young as auditor.

He was staying at Des Moines, the capital of Iowa, in midwest US. He went missing on May 27 and his body was traced on May 30.
