The BBMP has claimed that four projects coming up in Bangalore will help dispose of at least 2,200 tonnes of waste every day, which is almost 60 per cent of the total garbage generated in the City.

These projects have been given a go-ahead so as to resolve the waste crisis in Mandur, which receives almost 2,500 tonnes of waste per day.
*Noble Exchange at Kannahalli on Magadi Road is coming up with a wet waste processing unit on five acres of BBMP land. It has been entrusted with the task of dealing with the waste generated by the Bangalore Hotels’ Association. It will have a capacity of 250 tonnes per day. The Palike had signed the agreement on October 10, 2013 and it should have completed its unit by June 2014. Due to protests, the project has not been completed yet. The Palike expects the unit to start soon.
* An integrated waste management unit by Essel Infraprojects Limited is coming up at Kannahalli on Magadi Road. It will process 600 tonnes of waste every day on 20 acres of BBMP land. Palike had signed the letter of agreement on May 19 this year to process waste for at least 20 years. It will be operational by December next year.
* Satarem Enterprises Limited is coming up with a waste-to-compost and energy unit with a capacity to process 1,000 tonnes of garbage every day near Gorur village in Ramanagar district. The company is setting up its unit on 40 acres of land. The duration of the project is 30 years. It had entered into an agreement with BBMP on April 18, 2013 and was supposed to complete its unit by April 2015. However, due to protests and a few conditions put by the firm may delay the project. The Palike expects work on the unit to be completed by April 2016.
* MSGP Infratech Limited has promised processing of 500 tonnes of waste every day at its ‘waste to compost’ unit at Chigaranahalli in Doddaballapur taluk of Bangalore Rural district. The Palike signed an agreement with the firm on December 18, 2013, to set up its unit on 50 acres of the firm’s land. The project duration is 20 years and it is supposed be operational from October this year. Palike officials say construction of road to the processing unit and other works are in progress. The firm has applied for loan to go ahead with the project.
