In a completely one-sided Group match at the Satindra Mohan Dev Memorial Stadium here, Churchill outplayed their opponents to run away with full three points in the opening match of the tournament.

Paite found the target in the 25th and 83rd minutes while Odafe scored in the 67th minute. HASC did not get a clear goal-scoring chance in the entire 90 minutes.
Churchill now take on Mumbai FC in their second group match on Wednesday. Ten minutes later, Paite gave Churchill the lead as his header, connecting a Gouramangi Singh pass off a Charan Rai corner, found the HASC net.

Odafe then put his name in the scoresheet in the 67th minute with a stunning right-footed free-kick from near the top of box which curled and hit the upright before bouncing into the net.

Seven minutes from time, Paite scored his second goal as his right footer rolled into the net after a deflection from HASC defender SJ Ricky.

Talismanic striker Jose Ramirez Barretto struck twice as defending champions Mohun Bagan scored a convincing 4-1 win over qualifiers Mohammedan Sporting.
Barretto scored his first goal in the sixth minute before adding another in the first minute of the injury time (90+1). Japanese recruit Ryuji Sueoka (41st) and Nigerian Chidi Edeh (90+3) netted one each in a Group B match at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium.

The lone goal for Mohammedan Sporting was scored by Jothi Kumar in the 33rd minute. Former champions Mahindra United beat Chirag United 2-1 in a Group B match. Mahindra scored through Sushil Kumar Singh (45th) and N P Pradeep (63rd) while Edmilson Marques reduced the margin through a spot kick in the 78th minute.
Mumbai FC came from behind to defeat Sporting Club de Goa 2-1. Nathaniel Amos opened the scoring for Sporting in the 27th minute. But, Dane Pereira equalised for Mumbai after 11 minutes and then Subhas Chakraborty scored the winner in the 75th minute.
