President of NCP should be a Patil not Patel: Raj Thackeray

Mumbai: With the NCP rolling out a succession plan following the untimely death of Ajit Pawar, Maharashtra Navnirman Sena founder-president Raj Thackeray has a take on it. 

Ajit Pawar (66), who was the NCP national president and Maharashtra's deputy chief minister, died in a plane crash in his hometown of Baramati. 

“Maharashtra's politics has undergone a complete upheaval in the recent past; honestly, one doesn't even feel like commenting on it. But still, one will have to speak on the events unfolding throughout the day-to-day. A party like the Nationalist Congress Party, which is truly rooted in Marathi soil, and its working president should be a proper Marathi person, a Patil perhaps, but not a Patel!" Raj posted on social media platforms.

Raj has left it to people to interpret the statement. 

It may be mentioned, the NCP working president is Praful Patel. 

The statement came at a time, when Ajit Pawar’s wife Sunetra Pawar was elected the NCP legislature party leader and sworn in as deputy chief minister and demands emerged that she should also take over as the party president following the death of her husband.
