City financier hacked to death

A 42-year-old financier was hacked to death by a three-men gang near OTC Road, Cottonpet, on Saturday morning.

The victim, Babu Singh, resident of NP Lane, was walking towards the Bescom office to pay the electricity bill, when the suspects, who followed him, threw chilli powder on his face and assaulted him with machetes before fleeing.

A severely bleeding Singh, hit on the head several times, was rushed by the public to a nearby hospital, but was declared brought dead, police said. 

The police suspect that it was a pre-planned murder and that financial row or personal rivalry may have led to the murder. Singh is survived by his wife and two children, Singh had rented out many houses and was involved in real estate business, a senior police officer said.

“We are examining the CCTV footage obtained from a nearby lodge and have gathered vital clues,” he added. 

The victim's brothers alleged that recently Singh had a tiff with a person over some financial transactions and suspected the person may have got Singh murdered.  

Woman hangs herself

A 65-year-old woman, Nagarathnamma, hung herself at her residence on Idgah Road under Varthur police limits, in the early hours of Saturday.

The deceased, residing along with her children and ailing, is suspected to have killed herself due to depression. On Saturday morning, when the family members, on finding that she had not emerged out of her room, peeped through the window and found her hanging, police said. A case has been registered. 

Merchant robbed

A merchant was robbed of Rs four lakh by three armed men at his shop on Nagarthpet Main Road under Halasuru Gate police limits on Saturday afternoon.

Dinesh, a native of Gujarat, had set up a small shop in Nagarthpet recently. 

At around 3 pm, three people came to the shop on the pretext of buying commodities. They then pulled out a knife and threatened him to hand over the cash kept in the shop. The robbers then fled with the cash. 

Dinesh lodged a complaint with Halasuru Gate police station, informing them that the miscreants were conversing in Gujarati. 

Security guard thrashed

Gulbaharuddin Choudhary, a 22-year-old security guard, was thrashed by residents of an apartment near Lal Bahadur Shastri Nagar under HAL police limits on Friday night, for showing obscene pictures to minors.
