The government will soon start hunt for a new director for the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) with the Human Resource Development (HRD) Ministry accepting the resignation of Pravin Sinclair from the post.

The ministry relieved Sinclair from her duties on Friday. “The ministry is now in the process of inviting applications to fill the post,” sources said.

A search-cum-selection committee will soon be set up for the selection of a suitable candidate for the post.

The ministry is keen on completing the entire exercise by the end of the year and fill up the post before the proposed national commission is set up to review the national education policy of the country next year, sources added.

HRD Minister Smriti Irani wants to start deliberations on a new education policy from January 2015.

In its manifesto for the Lok Sabha elections, the Bharatiya Janata Party had promised setting up a National Commission on Education to report in two years on the state of education and the reforms needed to meet the changing dynamics of the country’s requirement with regards to quality education, innovation and research.
