Police custody for wife of Burdwan blast accused

The wife of a Burdwan blast accused, who was arrested yesterday, was today remanded to 14 days' police custody by a court here.

The court remanded Sujana Begum, wife of blast accused Shahnur Alom to police custody. It also sent Sujana Begum's brother-in-law Zakaria to 11 days' police custody.

The court of Chief Judicial Magistrate granted permission to Sujana to keep her 18-month-old son, who was present in the court, with her.

Sujana, wanted in connection with a Special Operation Unit case registered under IPC and anti-terror law Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act was apprehended by the police from the ISBT here on Thursday night.

The Guwahati City Police had information about Sujana's movement and tracked her to the Inter-State Bus Terminus where they nabbed her, according to Superintendent of Police (Operations) City Sudhakar Singh.

She is suspected to have given underground training in jehadi movement "somewhere in India", a police spokesman said.Sahanur's brother Zakaria was arrested for his alleged involvement with the Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh.

Sahanur Alom, alias Doctor hailing from Chatala village, under Sarthebari police station of Barpeta district in Assam, is one of the main accused in the October 2 Burdwan blast in West Bengal in which two suspected terrorists were killed.

Alom is absconding and the National Investigation Agency has recently declared a Rs 5 lakh reward for anyone giving information leading to his arrest.

An NIA team had searched Sahanur's house in Barpeta district this week and seized some materials, including some documents, Arabian coins, bank passbooks and some money collection receipt books of Talimul Madrassa in West Bengal.
