“The practice since the British regime is that Judges should not have a public life, which at times led to corruption, even they are not supposed to go the media, but until recently Only Justice Shylendrakumar has been an exception, by starting a debate on corruption,” he said.

Misuse

On his decision to endorse Justice Kumar, he said that  there is misuse of contempt power in the Judiciary.

He also said that if the debate on corruption had begun 25 years ago, the Indian Judiciary would we would not have been facing such crisis now.

When questioned how to handle such incidents, he said that a national Judiciary Council is the need of the hour.

“This is because the impeachment to inquire into allegations of corruption against judges has failed,” he said.

Citing the example of Justice Ramaswamy, he said “there was a required majority for sought impeachment, but one political party remained neutral and even now many political parties have adopted the same stance.”
