He was interacting with the people at the end of his lecture on ‘Controlling Corruption- Role of engineers’ at the Institute of Engineers, which is commemorating 75 years of its establishment, here on Saturday.

Justice Hegde said, the government officials turned a blind eye when Akrama (illegal) was taking place and now a scheme is brought to legalise illegal structures.
He viewed that the entire Akrama-Sakrama scheme is as good as illegal.

“The case can be referred to the illegal mining, which is a case of theft under the IPC section 379 but under the mining act the government can levy compound fee for illegal mining,” said Justice Hegde.

Earlier speaking to the audience, Justice Hegde pulled up the government for not initiating any action against the illegal mining happening in Bellary.
