It is the belief of some that some times are propitious and other times are inopportune. What is important is to ask: is it something that has to be done immediately or is it something that needs to be postponed or could be deferred indefinitely and accordingly one should decide on doing this or that. But what use is there to look for a propitious time?

All times belong to God and one time is as good as another. However, when we are thinking of asking a favour of some one it is good to pause and choose the best psychological moment to approach the person concerned. Some would not bother with such considerations and are on pins till the decided action is done speedily. They do it and get done with it. Only then they are at peace.

Are there appropriate or propitious times when we deal with God? Obviously there is no such thing possible because God lives in a permanent present. All times are same for him. He does what he wills and as he thinks fit. There are no psychologically propitious times. He neither sleeps nor wakes. He is watchful at all times. So you could approach him whenever you want: in day time or night; in so called good times or bad.

Your perceived need is all that matters. When you declare your poverty, need and helplessness He is there for you always. The Psalmist says so aptly: “For the needy shall not always be forgotten, nor the hope of the poor perish forever”(Psalm 9:18). In another psalm he expresses his faith in God who will not abandon him “As for me, I am poor and needy, but the Lord takes thought for me. You are my help and my deliverer; do not delay, O my God”(Psalm 40:17). So the only question you should ask: is my need real? Then all times are good times because God is close to you who trust in him. You need not unnecessarily worry about the so called auspicious time.
The New Year should be seen as so much time providing us with so many opportunities for doing good to all sundry. Our desire should be to bring joy and peace to all around because in the joy of everyone, our own joy is multiplied.

On the contrary the sorrow that we may bring without our knowing or even wishing somehow lessens our own joy. So try to do all that is best and all that you can possibly do to make everyone happy.
