Man kills wife with scissors, ends life in east Delhi

A 35-year-old man allegedly killed his wife with a pair of scissors and then committed suicide by jumping in front of a train in east Delhi’s Gandhi Nagar on Friday.

In an apparent suicide note written on their bedroom wall with a pen, the man blamed his wife for the extreme step.

The cause of the alleged murder-suicide was “ego clash” between the couple, said the police, adding that the couple often fought over petty issues.

Neeraj and Pooja, 32, had been married for nine years. They lived with sons Yash, 7, and Harsh, 5, on the first floor of a three-storey building in the Kailash Nagar area of Gandhi Nagar.

Narrating the sequence of events, the police said Neeraj’s sister Bhawna was staying with the family for the past few days.

“Around 8:30 pm on Friday, Bhawna went to Gandhi Nagar police station and reported that her brother had stabbed Pooja with a pair of scissors and was missing,” said a police officer.

A team of local cops reached the couple’s house and found Pooja lying in a pool of blood with stab wounds on her face, neck, arms and stomach.

She was declared dead on arrival at Lal Bahadur Shastri Hospital.

In her statement, Bhawna told the police she saw Yash and Harsh crying on the stairs when she returned home around 8 pm. They two told her their parents had had an argument, after which their father had left.

The police found a note on the wall written about the incident allegedly by Neeraj.
“He wrote that he had killed Pooja and was now going to commit suicide. She was blamed for the deaths,” said the officer.

Despite the note, the police initially suspected that Neeraj had fled after killing Pooja.
However, around 7 am on Saturday, his body was found on railway tracks in Kailash Nagar: Neeraj had jumped in front of a train.

A case of murder has been registered with the Gandhi Nagar police station over Pooja’s death.
