Focus on quality, mayor tells contractors

Mayor N Shanthakumari on Thursday asked the contractors to cooperate with the BBMP and accomplish works in a manner that gives them ‘inner satisfaction.’

She was speaking after issuing work orders for 1,562 works across 198 wards of the BBMP.

The mayor said, “The contractors should cooperate with the BBMP keeping in mind that the civic agency was prompt in paying the bills when it was financially sound. The BBMP has introduced the online bill payment system on the basis of seniority.”
She said time has changed since the introduction of RTI Act.

“The onus of quality lies on the contractors who should accomplish the work in a manner that satisfies their conscious,” said the mayor.

She said earlier numerous hurdles would impede permission for works but the single window system has minimised hassles to a good extent.

The ward wise works committee chairperson Suguna Balakrishna said: “Of the work orders sanctioned for 2,550 projects through the single window system, tender process has been completed for 1,562 works in the first phase.”
