The Congress party is planning to utilise the services of former prime minister Manmohan Singh ahead of the Delhi Assembly polls.

Singh is likely to address a rally in the capital, seeking votes for the Congress on the basis of the party’s 15-year rule in Delhi and the performance of his 10-year United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government at the Centre.

Congress President Sonia Gandhi will kick off the first of the party’s three rallies planned for the Delhi Assembly elections on February 1. The rally is tentatively planned in the Kalkaji area in South Delhi.

Besides Sonia and Manmohan, Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi is also expected to address a rally in the capital. This would be followed by a road show by the young leader.

“The dates for Rahul and Manmohan rallies are yet to be finalised,” Congress sources said.  The party is likely to stress on street corner meetings. It has had bitter experience in the past as two rallies addressed by Rahul in 2013, ahead of the Delhi Assembly elections, evoked poor response.
