The auditorium was constructed in the year 1995 due to the combined efforts of former MLA A Nagaraju, former Town Municipal Council president late N Venkataswamy and pro-Kannada organisations like Bhuvaneshwari Kala Sangha and others.
The Auditorium hosted many social, educational, political and cultural including Kannada Rajyotsava programmes. People thronged to the auditorium during plays and was quite popular among them.
Many noted theatre personalities had performed in the auditorium.
MLA S N Krishnaiah Setty wanted to convert the auditorium to drama theatre and began works on the auditorium. However, even after the lapse of four years the works have not been completed, much to the disappointment of art lovers.
Siddappa, a senior artiste from Malur said that TMC had converted the auditorium into a parking yard for its garbage disposal lorry adding insult to injury.
