While the Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai demolished the controversial ramp outside Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan's famous bungalow 'Mannat', in suburban Bandra, his troubles may be far from over as the BMC may now ask him to foot the bill for the deployment of manpower and machinery.

As reported in Hindustan Times, as per the Mumbai Municipal Corporation Act, 1888, and the Maharashtra Regional and Town Planning Act, 1966, the BMC can recover the cost it incurs from the owner on demolition of any illegal construction carried out by him.

BJP MP Poonam Mahajan had sought removal of the ramp, following complaints by residents of the seafront area. Khan used the ramp to park his vanity van which many residents complained blocked access to Mount Mary Basilica church.

Vijay Kamble, assistant municipal commissioner of H West ward was quoted in Hindustan Times as saying, “We are yet to examine the costs and are studying the legal provisions. Decision on recovering the demolition costs from the owner is yet to be taken.”
