Cop, spunky victim catch bike-borne snatcher

Two bikers had a hard time to flee with a mobile phone they had snatched from a daily labourer. The victim caught hold the rear of the motorcycle as they accelerated but as he fell, a policeman intervened and chased down a culprit.

The victim’s mobile phone, however, could not be recovered as the other snatcher managed to escape along with it. Police said the nabbed suspect’s interrogation has revealed that his accomplice is a juvenile.

Efforts are on to apprehend him, said police in a release on Thursday. The incident took place in west Delhi’s Subhash Nagar on Wednesday evening when Om Prakash was returning home from Kirti Nagar.

He was talking over his mobile phone while passing through the main market of Subhash Nagar when two youths on a black Pulsar suddenly snatched the phone.

“But the courageous complainant did not lose hope and caught the rear of the motorcycle. The pillion rider began beating the victim, but he held on. The rider then raced the motorcycle,” said police on Thursday.

“Head Constable Tilak Raj was present nearby when this incident took place. As soon as he saw the incident, he started his motorcycle to chase the snatchers,” said police.

Prakash, meanwhile, could not manage to stop the snatchers’ speeding motorcycle for long as he fell. Raj then chased the snatchers for a short distance before overtaking the snatchers and blocking their way with his motorcycle.

“The snatchers’ motorcycle skidded as a result and the two of them fell. The policeman tried to hold on to both the suspects, but could only nab the rider. His accomplice escaped along with the snatched phone,” said police.

The nabbed suspect was identified as Sohan Singh, a 24-year-old resident of Chander Vihar.

Police said his arrest led to the working out of another snatching case registered with Rajouri Garden police station.
