Activists of the Anti Land-Grabbing Action Committee staged a protest here on Tuesday against the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) for neglecting its properties.

Led by freedom fighter H S Doreswamy, the protestors demanded the civic agency to provide comprehensive report on the assets owned by it.

“The BBMP is steeped in deep corruption. Its officers and corporators are corrupt. The garbage problem has not been not addressed and a few BBMP officers are involved in the garbage scam,” he said.

He continued, “There will be widespread corruption if the Palike is split. The administration is so rotten it is beyond repair. The government should supersede the civic body and sack the officials. Elections should be held in the BBMP only after a new system is in place.”

Doreswamy alleged that pools, playgrounds, parks, CA sites, lakes, storm water drains (SWDs), etc, had been encroached upon by creating fake documents.

The Palike should give details on how many properties it owns, the extent of encroachments and the assets required,” said the committee’s convenor and former legislator A T Ramaswamy. He claimed that no information was given to the committee despite many requests.

BBMP Commissioner M Lakshminarayana assured promise that the said information would be provided within a few days. He said the list of properties was available in the gazette and anyone could access the public record.

“Details of encroachments on SWDs, lakes and other properties (parks, roads, playgrounds, etc)  are available with the respective Palike departments.

But since some property-related cases are in the High Court, their details can be provided only later,” he added.
