NGT notice to MCC, others over tree felling

Bengaluru: The National Green Tribunal (NGT) has issued notice to the Forest Department, Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) and others over the felling of 40 trees for widening the Hyder Ali Road in the heart of the city.

The southern zone bench of the NGT issued a notice based on the suo motu case registered by the principal bench.

The principal bench had taken note of the news report that the MCC applied for permission to fall the trees and received permission without a public hearing.

The tribunal said the matter indicates a violation of provisions of the Environment Protection Act, the Karnataka Tree Preservation Act and the Forest Conservation Act. The southern zone bench posted the matter for September 2.
