The Paryaya rituals start from early morning. The incoming seer will leave Udupi on the previous night to Dandatheertha near Kaup, where he will take a holy dip in the wee hours and offer pooja. He will enter Udupi at Jodukatte, the old entrance point of the city at around 4.30 am where he will be received by the swamijis of Ashta Mutts, except the outgoing Putthige seer.

The seer will be taken in a procession from Jodukatte in a decorated palanquin. As many as 26 tableaux and 25 cultural and folk troupes are taking part in the procession.

Sri Madhwacharya, founder of Dwaita philosophy set up Asta (eight) Mutts with eight pontiffs to perform Sri Krishna pooja.

It was the seer of Sri Sode Vadiraja Mutt who introduced biennial Paryaya system by changing the two months’ term to two year term in 1522. CM Yeddyurappa, Union Minister of State for Petroleum and Natural Gas Jithen Prasad and others will take part in the programme.
