The health department cracked down on an illegal clinic near AIIMS who was treating patients despite having no valid medical degree.

The raid was conducted by chief district medical officer (CDMO), New Delhi and the Delhi Medical Council on Friday. The team called up the police to take action against the quack.

“The quack was arrested and later released on bail the same day. We have slapped section 27 of the Delhi Medical Council Act against him,” said a senior police official, Kotla Mubarakpur police station. Section 27 of the DMC Act is false assumption of a medical practitioner who practises modern scientific medicine or allopathic medicine without holding a valid medical degree.  The quack is a class 10 pass-out and was found dispensing allopathic medicines by the team.

“The clinic is situated in Kidwai Nagar, East at some distance from the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS). The quack B K Biswas, who holds no degrees, was caught red-handed by the team dispensing allopathic medicines. He also claimed that patients who are not cured at AIIMS gets cured at his clinic,” said Dr Anil Bansal, member of the raiding team.

“What is most shocking is quacks are functioning around hospitals like AIIMS. More number of people coming from outside the city will get duped,” said Dr Bansal. The quack also claimed that the clinic is run by a qualified person who was out during that particular time.

Medicines confiscatedSeveral anti-biotics, injections, intravenous fluids were seized from the clinic. It was also shut down on the spot and the police informed. However, with the quack already out on bail, it is most likely that the clinic will start functioning illegally again. “It is difficult to clamp down on the mushrooming of the clinics if the quacks are leniently dealt with,” said Dr Bansal.
