A woman, claiming to be a Samajwadi party worker, today allegedly attempted suicide at the party office here after accusing Kalyanpur police of harassing her.

The woman had gone to the party office this afternoon to meet some MLA but no leader was present there, police said.

Police, however, refuted the allegation by saying that the woman's son  Hani Ansari is a "notorious criminal" who had been sent to jail "several times" and officials raided her house in search of him.

She is doing all these to "save" him, they said.In October 2014 Ansari and his two accomplishes conducted theft at a doctor's house. The three were sent to jail. Later Ansari was released on bail, Kalyanpur Police CO Pavitra Mohan Tripathi said.

During interrogation, the accused told police that stolen materials were kept under another of their associate Munna Hakkal.

Munna Hakkal was arrested last week, police said.Upon questioning, Hakkal told police that the stolen items were kept at Ansari's home and officials had gone to his home on May 16 night for further enquiry, Tripathi said.

Ansari was not at home and the police interrogated Bano, he said.Tripathi however said if Bano feels she is being harassed inquiry could be conducted afresh. He also said that he is not sure if the woman is an SP worker.
