An alert elderly woman helped the police nab an armed miscreant who barged into a house and tried to rob the occupants. The incident took place near Mother Dairy Circle in Yelahanka New Town on Monday.

According to the police, the complainant and victim, Archana, along with her son, was on a visit her mother’s house. Around 1.45 pm, Archana and her son were watching television when the knife-wielding man barged in and asked her to hand over the valuables and money and threatened to kill her son. Archana tried to confront him but he assaulted her with the knife and tried to snatch her gold chain. Hearing the commotion, Archana’s mother, who was inside the bedroom, peeped in and found the armed man threatening her daughter. She screamed out through the window and alerted the public and her neighbours, who rushed to the house and overpowered him.

They thrashed him before handing him over to the police. The suspect has been identified as Mohan, 30, a resident of Vidyaranyapura, who took to crime after suffering losses in his real estate business.
