Marathi writer wins Kuvempu national award

Marathi writer Shyam Manohar has been selected for the Kuvempu National Award for the year 2015.

Making the announcement, Hampa Nagarajaiah, president of Rashtrakavi Kuvempu Prathishtana, said on Thursday that a panel comprising well-known writers had finalised Manohar’s name for the award. The award, instituted by Rashtrakavi Kuvempu Pratishthana in memory of the famous poet Kuvempu, carries a cash award of Rs 5 lakh.

Manohar has authored several short stories, plays and  essays in Marathi. Many of his works have been prescribed as textbooks. His short stories and novels have been translated in many languages .The award function will take place at Kuppalli in Shivamogga district on December 29.
