Celebrating I-Day in myriad ways

Patriotic fervour marked the Independence Day celebrations in the City on Saturday with people from all walks of life choosing their own way to mark the occasion.

About 1,000 motorcyclists and members of 20 motorcycle clubs took part in the “Freedom Ride - 2015” as a tribute to late former president, A P J Abdul Kalam.

Bike rally

Organised by Rd350 Club and Team Top Enders, the bike rally passed through
Hebbal Flyover, Old Airport Road and Silk Board Junction. The event concluded at the Nandi Hills where the participants hoisted the national flag.

More than 500 volunteers took part in “Run for Bharath,” a four-km run organised by Samagra Vikas to uphold the spirit of independence.

 Yelahanka United Environment Association (YUVA) in association with Karnataka Amateur Rowing Association (KARA) had organised Rowing Sport Interlake competition at Allalasandra lake in Yelahanka New Town. Students who had won medals in various National Rowing Championships took part in the event.

Educational institutions in the City celebrated Independence Day with great enthusiasm. For Jyothi Nivas College of Management, the occasion also marked 50 years of the institution.

Flower show

Hundreds of visitors thronged Cubbon Park on Saturday to witness the first-of-its kind flower show organised in the park. A mini flower show along with caricatures of horses and elephants made of flowers was on display near the Chamarajendra Wadiyar statue.
